Joe Motes' last con, handing the reins over to Gary and Terri (I hope I got that right), the last Buffy/Angel dedicated show.   First of all I do not drink therefore most of the drama goes on around me, but I do not get involved.  I miss a lot of it too, because of the no party aspect, but I make my own fun, and get more sleep than most, and am impossibly chipper early in the morning on Sunday <g>.

This is my 5th con and third Vulkon Slayercon and I thoroughly enjoyed being a part of it (I was Music vid lady). The generosity shown was amazing, to me at least, as you will se later.

I went as a volunteer this time as it was an excellent experience when I volunteered for Megacon the first time this year.   I went because I just had to meet Amy and Bianca, 2 very talented actress’ that I look up to.  I know a lot of the Platinum ticket holders look down upon volunteers, but I did it because I love to help and be a part of something.  And frankly, I really don’t care what anyone thinks of me.  For those of you who got to hang with me, it was pretty apparent.

Now for the con break down and my pov.

Friday

I had arrived in Pasco county from Orlando the day before, got my nails and hair done by my Barbazon trained sister, and drove everyone crazy with how giddy I was.   I arrived at the hotel about noon on Friday and had no trouble getting a key to my room.   Richelle, her daughter, and LeAnnne were already there.  We talked about our past cons, then found Paul to find out when the volunteer meeting was starting. 6pm it turns out, so I watched Richelle set up her tables in the vendor room, got to meet George the vendor, and Andrew, who had never been to one of these cons before.  I bought 2 puppet Angels from George and had him hold them until Sunday for me. (One was for a friend of mine who could not make the show because of work obligations.)

I went to the volunteer meeting, then went to the main room to get my vids running it was in the main ballroom so it was very cool and gave people something to watch right after registration.  After an hour the Rich Weirdos had to rehearse their cosplay and needed the room so I got Richelle and we went to the bar to get some food.

Camden was in there entertaining a bunch of people, Cat, Steven and Leanne were faces I recognized and had names to go with among others.  I guess the trip to Busch Gardens was a bust. The waitress went out of her way to find my salad dressing.   Why do I mention this?  Because it is always nice to recognize people when they go an extra mile for you.  Camden came up and talked to us while we were waiting our food, he is so cool.

Then it was time to see the cosplay which was good, but I am very glad I got to see the original 2 years back. (Tampa 04) Afterwards we stood around and talked soon the room parties were starting and I went in the hall and saw Kris looking at things on her laptop, she showed me pics of the Universal Studios Macy parade  and read me some of her Rent fanfiction, which was pretty good.  She was watching the doors for Javier who was the photographer, but had to go find him after awhile cause it was very late.   When I got back to the room Caitlin and Richelle were still awake and we talked until about 2 or 3 am, then fell asleep.

There are things I left out, stalking jokes and Almost Angel, Vicky and her mom.  Andrew and Camden both being in S A G. But I gotta leave some things out or this would take forever to write.

Saturday

8:30 am.  During the week I get up at 5 am so 8:30 is sleeping in for me, I shower and leave quietly for breakfast.  In the hall I meet Melody, who is also an early riser and found that she had been to Walmart and back already.  I ate breakfast alone and marveled at how quiet the hotel was.  I headed back to the room to find them still sleeping.

I wander back out into the lobby and see Andrew and Vicky and “Almost Angel” also known as Brian.  Brian looked uncannily like David Boreanaz and people kept calling him Angel all weekend.  I got my autos in the bonus guest room from all except Jonathan, cause he was late, then as a group we went to the auction.

Things of note for the auction.   Those Russian Dolls were sooooooo cool.   I remembered playing with toys like that when I was in Germany.  They weren’t Buffy/Angel themed but they were still fun.  Then there was the bid war to sit next to Amy or Vincent.  Both seat went for 600 dollars.  Andrew almost go the Amy seat and the guy her lost to later came by and said, if you had bid 20 more you would have won.  So not nice, but water under the bridge.

After the auction Leanne ran Slayer improv and as a good roomie I played in it.  It was very fun and funny.

Then there was the Mark Metcalf, Camden toy and Vincent Karthieser Q&A’s.

I am sorry to say most of it did not stick and part of Vincent’s Q & A did offend me, and yes I did leave before it was finished.  I am sure there will be a transcript some where, and as it was pointed out to me, maybe I don’t remember 27 year old men and how they behave.  I am getting old you know.

I did  come back To get his auto though, I wasn’t that offended, I did that then played my Angel vids , then replayed Buffy because I did not have a ticket for the banquet.  Just as I was the only one left watching vids, the girl who won the seat next to Vincent ran over and gave me her previously purchased banquet ticket. (Thank you 1000 times, thank you, I never got your name, even when we met up again during lunch the next day.  Thank you)

I jumped up, left my disc in the machine, and got in line.  (yes excited, idiotness had take over at this time, and the people in line were not happy to be around me, but I calmed down finally).  I got to sit at Mark Metcalf’s table and we all had a wonderful time.  I got to meet the author of the Nyazian Prophesies who had ome all the way from Quebec? Maybe Toronto, forgive me.  And dinner was over all good, the food was definitely better this year.  Amy walked around and allowed people to take pictures with her.   Vincent left then, from what I hear. I did not actually see him leave.

Next was the karaoke contest.  Blew me away this year.  Everyone had the talent that was displayed by Roger the Tampa con before.  There was Broadway Bob who did a Grease tune, Summer time or some such, both parts and was hilarious, Almost Angel (Brian) sang Mandy, I about died it was so perfectly bad.  LeAnne sang a song she wrote accapella  Amy Ackers husband sang We are the champions and was spectacular.  The talent abounded this year.

The dance was a bust much to Cat’s dismay and she even yelled at the bonus guests then next day for not showing up. (His name is Mark, Mark Metcalf).  Getting people motivated for the dance has never been easy.

Sunday

Breakfast with Nyazian prophesy author.  (Alright names don’t stay with me, sorry, I know faces but alas names just don’t stick), then the lady from the very small town where everyone is cheerful and Brian.

Vulcan Mass with Jonathan Woodward was interesting.  Bianca’s Q&A was cool, but I remember more about the three villains, the small chair that Johny Woodward had to sit in, and the “character with depth” question. Well ok that’s all I remember.

Amy Acker’s  presentation came on at he same time as my hypoglycemic attack.    I didn’t realize until I stood up to get more batteries for my camera. So after finding that my room key was not working, finding Richelle getting her key, getting all my crap from the room, and then back, I decided I might as well get lunch to.  Before I passed out, which would not have been good.  The fuzzies were already in my vision.  I hate those.

I ate in the ball room waiting for my turn to get Amy’s autograph.  She is soo like Fred, or Fred is soo like her I should say.

Then I went to show my Serenifly vids. Packed up and waited to be retreived from the hotel.

I had an excellent time, and all thoughJoe didn’t know me I recognized him and enjoyed everyone of his shows I attended and I thank him for that.  I look forward to seeing what the new owners have in store for us and hope they realize they have big shoes to fill.
